History

ASSIST is an international ministry started by British journalist and author, Dan Wooding and his wife, Norma. Their vision was that ASSIST would be a way to help Christians living under difficult circumstances and to share the Gospel with those who do not know Christ. Dan has authored of 44 books and also directs ASSIST News Service which gives a Christian perspective on current events.

ASSIST came to Canada in the early 1990s under the leadership of Mr. Wally Featherston. From 1998-2015 Rev. Kevin Schular was the Executive Director. The major country of focus for ASSIST at that time was Nicaragua. This Central American nation had come through civil war and natural disasters and the ministry of ASSIST was a significant help to the people and churches. Beginning in 2007, ASSIST began to expand our partnerships with other national churches and organizations. While continuing in Nicaragua, we now minister in Cuba, India, Democratic Republic of Congo and Middle East.

Our work is diverse and includes: Church planting; micro-loans for nationals to start up small business; Bible conferences and pastoral education; building schools and medical centres; child evangelism, eye clinics in remote villages – the list goes on. We invite you to partner with us as we seek to reach people everywhere by “Sharing His Word, Showing His Love”.
